Uhm Jung Hwa claps back at media outlets that were highlighting her age instead of her achievements.
The veteran actress reached her second heyday after the K-drama comeback "Doctor Cha" made a huge achievement.
Not only that, Uhm Jung Hwa also returned to the music industry, releasing her fourth album, "Invitation," with new tracks "Poison" and "Invitation."
However, in an episode of her YouTube channel "Umaizing Uhm Jung-hwa TV," she opened up about being criticized because of her age.
The 54-year-old star made a name for herself in acting and music.
Starting her entertainment career as a chorus member at MBC from 1987 to 1990, Uhmn Jung Hwa established herself as one of the sought-after stars of her generation, bagging various awards like Best Actress and more.
In 2020, she became part of the group Refund Sisters with her close friends Lee Hyori, Jessi, and MAMAMOO's Hwasa and released their debut single, "Don't Touch Me," which topped the Gaon chart.
Interestingly, in 2022, she made her K-drama comeback after 5 years as she joined the star-studded cast of "Our Blues," followed by the hit K-drama "Doctor Cha" a year later.
Uhm Jung Hwa Claps Back at Reporters Who Would Highlight Her Age Instead of Her Achievements
Reflecting on her career as a singer and actress, Uhm Jung Hwa shared her concerns about how the media perceived her.
She opened up about her disappointment at being criticized for what she wears that doesn't match her age, and so on.
Furthermore, she also pointed out that the media would always indicate her age before her name.
"'34-year-old Uhm Jung Hwa...' My age is always in front of my name; they never write it like that for male actors. I think that's a bit violent."
Moreover, the singer-actress called out reporters who would do this to female celebrities and not to male stars.
"It's ridiculous that they mention my age first instead of what I have achieved in my career."
Interestingly, other than Uhm Jung Hwa, there are a slew of K-drama actresses who are still slaying at 50 and above.
The equally talented and beautiful Kim Hee Ae has just appeared in her K-drama comeback, "The Whirlwind," with Sol Kyung Gu. She is best known for her role in "The World of the Married."
Adding to the list is 51-year-old Jeon Do Yeon, who could still kick ass in an action crime series.
Will Uhm Jung Hwa Return With A New K-drama?
Other than being active on social media and her YouTube channel, viewers will get to see more of Uhm Jung Hwa on the small screen as she stars in an upcoming series.
Headlining a thriller drama, the veteran actress plays the main character in KBS2's "The Wife," which will air sometime this year.
It depicts the story of a woman who is living a fictitious life in someone else's name.
