Actress buddies Kim Go-Eun and Lee Ji-ah have reunited on screen after three years. However, their new variety show, "Just The Two of Us," is stumbling in the ratings, with figures only around 1%.
The two actresses, who are best friends despite having an age difference of 13 years, were back on TV — and hoping to regain the chemistry they had in previous projects.
However, as reported by Ten Asia, it is also hard to ignore the fact that the show has been criticized for being boring.
The duo toured popular Korean and Taiwanese restaurants and bars to match whiskey with food in "Just The Two of Us," but has only wrapped two episodes to a series-best average rating of only 1.1%.
This is especially disheartening due to the stardom of the actresses in the industry.
The former collaboration, The Sea I Wished For, also suffered low ratings with a 1%-range average and a top of only 0.9%.
Some critics argued that the show's overeager blend of panoramic views, music, cooking, and ecological themes brought a dusty collage to the screen.
Kim and Lee dine at fine dining establishments in the quirky slice of life "Just The Two of Us," yet fans sense an absence of culinary prowess and deep culinary conversation about food and whiskey.
It is being labeled a classic "good food" entertainment show, in which tastings feature the actresses delivering overly obvious opinions.
One viewer commented, saying: "No private or interesting much to talk about. It is more of a promotion than a show for entertainment."
While the actresses have tried to demonstrate their friendship through social media and vlogs, viewers who know better have been less than impressed with how the show has played this up.
With ratings still stuck in the mud, some media outlets started questioning whether audiences might be thanking his lucky stars that Kim Go-Eun and Lee Ji-ah recouped the screen.
The last two episodes of "Just the Two of Us" are expected in the next few weeks, and fans can only hope that the pair can reverse their bad fortune in the rating department.
