Lee Joo Sil, a South Korean veteran actress who recently appeared in Netflix's "Squid Game 2," has passed away at the age of 80 due to prolonged stomach cancer, her agency confirmed on Sunday.
Ilsamgong Culture reportedly said Lee died at 10:20 a.m. on February 2 at a hospital where she had been receiving treatment.
Her funeral is to take place at Shinchon Severance Hospital, with visitation starting February 3. A final service will take place on February 5.
Lee Joo Sil started her career in 1964 and garnered recognition not only as a voice actor but also as an on-screen performer.
Originally, she worked in TBC's second voice acting class in 1965, soon broadening her acting career to include television and film.
In a notable career highlight, Lee played Park Mal Soon in "Squid Game 2," who has been hailed for representing a motherhood role.
She portrayed a beloved, kind-hearted character who affected fans and really made an impression through an emotional role.
Lee disclosed in an interview on MBN "Special World" last year that she had been fighting cancer for more than 10 years.
