K-pop star IU unexpectedly revealed a behind-the-scene moment from her new K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines.
As per KyungHyang, the popular singer, who stars alongside Park Bo Gum in the series, revealed that she had to drink absolute alcohol during a pivotal scene to maintain authenticity.
In a video released on Netflix's official YouTube channel, IU sat down with co-stars Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon to reflect on highlights from the show.
During the discussion, she confessed that the production team wanted her character to appear natural, opting against makeup to create a flushed look.
"I actually had a drink while filming this. That reddish hue — if done with makeup, it could have ended up looking a bit too cute," IU explained.
Park Hae Joon also recounted his challenges during the scene, which involved eating at a Chinese restaurant.
He said that timing was crucial as he had to balance the act of picking up squid and slurping noodles while maintaining a smooth flow of conversation. "I kept second-guessing whether I should eat or not, which made the process even trickier," he joked.
IU also talked about her character, Geummyeong, and her dedication to getting her narration right.
She mentioned that it took nearly two months to record, as she aimed to create a voice that could transition naturally to an older version portrayed by another actor.
She shifted her speaking voice nearly to her natural lower register to specify ages, though she went even deeper in her narration.
