Since so many k-drama actors and actresses began their careers as models, it's no surprise that some of them occasionally win style awards.
Jo In Sung recently won the 2014 Sohu Fashion Awards in China, being the first Korean actor to receive the Best Fashionista of the Year award. He was also the first Korean actor to attend the event and walked down the red carpet in a well-tailored black velvet suit.
"I think being invited to such a great event is a great way to start the New Year," said Jo In Sung, whose popularity in China rose due to his appearance in the drama "That Winter The Wind Blows."
It may be his first style award in China but it's not his first award for dressing well. In 2010 his classic style won him the 26th Korea Best Dresser Swan Awards Best Dressed, Actor Category.
This year the Swan Awards for Best Dressed Actor category was given to Jung Woo Sung and Ko Joon Hee. Fashion industry insiders and an online poll decide on the winners. It is decided not just by what clothes the actors wear but how they convey an individual sense of style and present themselves.
Other actors who have won praise for being style savvy include Kim So Yeon, who will star in "I Need Romance 3." She is known for her effortless classic style.
Park Shin Hye also gets rave for her style choices, which an be as simple as combining a leather mini skirt and lace shirt or as dramatic as the lacy dress with the plunging back that she wore to a recent awards show.
Earlier this year Style Icon Awards were presented to several celebrities. Jung Woo Sung also won an "Homme Fatale" Style Icon Award. Girls Generation's Sooyoung won the "Best K-Style" award. Both Lee Jong Suk and Yeo Jin Goo were honored for their style sense.
An award for best style malfunction of the year award should really go to actress Kim Sun Ah for a mishap that occurred when she was promoting her new film "The Five." She showed up in a dramatic top with a deep V-cut in the back. She looked great in the top but it kept slipping off and she had to hold it for the evening. Fortunately, there is no such award but maybe she should be honored for managing to look glamorous despite the malfunction.
And what about k-drama characters? Do they also get awards? Yoon Eun Hye's character fashion designer Zoe Lou dressed beautifully in "Missing You." As did the Jeguk high school students in "The Heirs." And perhaps the best dressed of all the Jeguk students was Lee Min Ho, who this year won a best dressed award at the SBS Drama Awards.
