"American Idol" Season 8 Runner up Adam Lambert is giddy with excitement upon teaming up with his childhood heroes, Queen. He was invited to sing for the band in a series of special events but now, a full American tour is announced this summer that puts him in the spotlight as the new "Freddie Mercury." Not bad for a Californian kid whose audition piece for American Idol are "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Are the Champions."
Rolling Stone got a hold of the trio consisting of 32-year old Lambert and Queen original members, Brian May and Roger Taylor to discuss their future plans.
Lambert openly said that he admires Freddie Mercury's attack on singing, calling his style, "powerful" and "with intensity."
Taylor complemented Adam to having a phenomenal voice as well upon discovering him on YouTube.
He added: "I said you had this sort of slight Elvis look going on. I just thought, "Wow, what a voice! Those octaves!" That was my first impression. It was just like anybody else hearing about someone with an extraordinary talent."
Responding to his comment of calling "For Your Entertainment" singer a "diva in the best possible way," Taylor corrected: "to me, diva means an extraordinary, outrageously theatrical, brilliant performer."
Rolling Stone then asked the band about the notable absence of John Deacon, the band's bassist, in their present incarnation.
Taylor admits to not ever seeing his former band mate, saying: I think he's a little fragile and he just didn't want to know anything about talking to people in the music business or whatever. That's fair enough. We respect that.
Rolling Stone "Top 26 Guitarist of All Time" Brian May was quick to emphasize the importance of the former Queen bassist, adding that: "John Deacon is still John Deacon. We don't undertake anything financial without talking to him."
It may be blasphemous to some but everyone is asking the inevitable question: are they going to cut a new record together?
Brian May revealed that they are open to the possibility, but Taylor pointed out that they will "make sure they enjoy it (the tour) first."
