Questlove, the drummer for the Roots and 'Tonight Show' bandleader, had his dream of playing a corpse on NBC's Law & Order SVU come true on last night's episode.
The drummer first divulged his TV dream in an article for US Weekly, "25 Things You Didn't Know About Me"; he wrote, "It's my fantasy to play a dead body on Law & Order." Ice T, who plays Detective Odafin Tutuola on the NBC drama, broke the news about Questlove's appearance back in February when he uploaded a photo of the drummer lying on the coroner's table onto his Twitter, with the message "This corpse looks strangely familiar..." Questlove then confirmed the news with his own Instagram selfie of him playing dead next to SVU star, Mariska Hargitay.
In the scene, which can be watched below, Questlove lies still as death as Detectives Fin Tutuola (Ice T) and Amanda Robbins (Kelli Giddish) discuss a different case with Dr. Melinda Warner (Tamara Tunie). This is the drummer's second time cameoing in a popular television series in the past year. Back on December 18, he served as a guest judge on Top Chef, where he oversaw a quickfire competition about fried chicken. At the time, Quest owned a gourmet fried chicken spot at New York City's Chelsea Market called Hybrid, which he started with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Unfortunately, the stand closed down, with Questlove writing an artfully worded eulogy to the closed spot, "the stand is down. my foodie partner (starr) and i have killed the lofty idealized hybird (after all, they shoot chickens don't they?)."
Quest remains busy outside of his successful guest starring gigs and being the bandleader of the recently relaunched Tonight Show; the Roots will be holding their annual Roots Picnic on May 31 at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. The star-studded line-up includes Snoop Dogg, the War on Drugs, Janella Monae, A$AP Ferg, and Action Bronson.
