Idealo, a specialist in price comparison has been monitoring Samsung's flagship smartphone prices over the years and here's what they found.

It looks like the depreciation on the Samsung Galaxy phones is probably a higher percentage than your car, because Samsung’s Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III and Galaxy S4 have plummeted significantly after launch.

A data analysis of the Galaxy S5′s price revealed a projection that by the third month from launch, the S5 is worth much less at retail stores than the original launch price on April 11, when the highly touted wonder phone from the Korean phone maker will hit the stores - as much a quarter off the price tag at launch.

According to Idealo, “The average price of the Samsung Galaxy S2 had reduced by 13% of its initial value after three months of being on sale.” In a post on its blog, the consumer electronics price analyst wrote, “Its successor, the Galaxy S3, experienced a price decline of 14%. One generation down the line, we notice an even more significant price decline. The Galaxy S4, which was released in May 2013, was 18% cheaper by August 2013.”

The Samsung GALAXY S4 will receive another price cut which takes place a year after its release date. Incidentally, it is also on the heels of a confirmed release date for the new Samsung flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S5 scheduled for launch on April 11,2014, just a few days away.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 price cut from approximately $683 to $500 at ecommerce websites, say reports. That is approximately 26%.

Earlier news reports had hinted at a price cut for the Samsung Galaxy Note, the S3, S4, and other earlier models to encourage Samsung users to purchase its touted fingerprint ID, aqua and dust proof, large display smartphone that was announced at the MWC 2014 in Barcelona at a gala event, 'Unpacked 5.'
“Based on this data, we can predict that after just 3 months, the new Galaxy S5 could be available for just 76% of its original release price, which makes up a price reduction of almost a quarter, just three months on from market release,” the post continued.

As far as tech devices go, there is a compelling urge buy on impulse, particularly if you haven't done the research on a product and you go by the way a smartphone looks, and feels. The hoopla and hype behind the awesome 'Unpacked 5' launch at the MWC 2014 adds to the Galaxy S5 value when it's in the spotlight. Taking into account that Smartphone has a hold on the global smartphone market and a significant share in the Android platform phones, the appeal of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is at its apex.

Nonetheless, analysts warn exercising caution and self restraint would result in a better buy and more value for your money.
