The Power Rangers movie reboot has been confirmed as Lionsgate and Saban team-up to create "an original feature" and the film's theme will be similar to Pacific Rim! Will Jason David Frank return as the Green or White Ranger?
We have already seen some of our favorite shows from the 80's and 90's making a comeback to the big screen such as the Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now it's time for the Power Rangers to make a comeback as the Power Rangers movie reboot is now in the works. The reboot will be under the joint production of Lionsgate films and the series original production Saban.
Lionsgate chief executive officer Jon Feltheimer and Power Rangers creator Haim Saban have officially announced their partnership and hinted that the new Power Rangers movie will be "an original live-action feature",and here are the statements made from both Feltheimer and Saban:
"Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level," said Saban. "They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from ‘The Hunger Games' to ‘Twilight' and ‘Divergent.' In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we're confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own."
"We're thrilled to be partnering with Haim Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise," said Feltheimer. "The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever. We have the ideal partner and the perfect brand with which to create a motion picture event that will resonate with moviegoers around the world for years to come."
The re-imagined Power Rangers will be a mix of the classic "superhero" blend with a more "darker and grittier" tone and a style similar to the mecha/kaiju themed movie Pacific Rim. If that's the case then it will depend on both Lionsgate and Saban's vision on what the movie would look like when they've decided on a good storyline, script, powerful new cast, and director. We'll likely see some new faces as well as the original Rangers joining the reboot.
Speaking of old Rangers, one of the original Power Rangers cast, Jason David Frank, teases fans of some sort of comeback to the big screen as he posted on his Facebook page about presenting the idea to Saban about the Power Rangers reboot and his push to be the Green or White Ranger in the movie.
As we all know, Jason David Frank played Tommy Oliver in the original Power Ranger TV series as both the Green Ranger and the White Ranger. He also took the role of two Red Rangers in both Power Rangers Zeo and Turbo, and a Black Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Thunder as well. He also appeared in the two Ranger movies; The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995, and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997.
Can Lionsgate and Saban work well together in order for Power Rangers reboot to happen and will we Jason David Frank as the Green or White Ranger in the movie? We'll just have to find out soon.
