Since almost all Smartphones can do what others can feature-wise, it would be interesting to see which phone will stand tallest when it comes to durability.

What do you think would happen if you'd drop your smartphone on concrete, or dunked it in water? Technicians from Square Trade did just that, testing four major brands of smartphones - the Samsung Galaxy S5, iPhone 5S, HTC One M8 and Nexus 5 - to determine their endurance levels.

The results were in favor of the bigger brands, as expected. The Samsung S5 made the biggest jump in durability compared to its predecessors, but it still is a little behind the Apple's iPhone 5s.

The phones were measured using various criteria, including weight, size, grip-ability, water resistance, drop test and slide test and more, in order to determine which one of them are designed best to withstand falls, water damage and even how far they would slide down the table.

"Galaxy S5 takes a big leap forward in terms of durability, with standout performances in both our drop and dunk tests." Ty Shay, the CMO of Square Trade, said in a statement. "Its only downside is the phone's increased size, giving its smaller rival the iPhone 5s, a slight edge."

The iPhone 5s got the score of 5.5, beating the Galaxy S5 (6.0) by half a point. The new HTC One M8 also did fairly well, surviving the drop test, but it did lose sound when exposed to the water test and got the score of 6.5. Worst of the pack was the Nexus, failing miserably in both the drop and dunk tests and getting the highest score (7). Still, all of these phones fall under the medium-risk of breakage, and the score differences weren't big.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 seems to be edging out its Android-based competitors, but despite Samsung's good reviews in regards to specs and general features against the iPhone's 5s, the Apple's newest phone still seems to hold a slight advantage in terms of durability.
