Watch out LEGO fans, the LEGO movie spin off "Ninjago" has a confirmed release date and a sequel to the first LEGO movie is in the works. Will there be a crossover between these two movies?
The LEGO brand has certainly grown beyond the toy aisle for years by having their own video games, cartoons, animated specials and even LEGO versions of franchises such as Marvel, DC Comics, Star Wars etc. With the success of the LEGO Movie it seems that Warner Bros. looks to continue on the tradition by making two sets of LEGO Movies: The LEGO movie spin off, Ninjago and the LEGO Movie 2.
"Following the huge success of 'The Lego Movie,' we are very excited to build on the Lego franchise. We know there are already Ninjago collectors who can't wait to see their favorite characters on the big screen. This promises to be a terrifically fun and thrilling entry into our Fall 2016 slate, with broad audience appeal."
The release date for Ninjago the movie has been set on September 23, 2016. The Ninjago movie will be based on the ninja themed brand and the spin off movie will be directed by Tron: Uprising's Charlie Bean. The Ninjago series was created by Dan and Kevin Hageman, who also worked on the story for the LEGO Movie and were reportedly working on a screenplay for Ninjago. The Ninjago TV series in shown in Cartoon Network and will likely see the same cast of voice actors in the movie.
Meanwhile, the LEGO Movie 2 is officially in the works as the directors/writers of the first movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller will act as producers for the sequel but will remain "very involved" with the proceeding in the movie. There reason from backing out on the director's chair is because they will also handle the Ninjago movie as producers as Chris McKay will handle the director's chair for the sequel. So far Chris Patt, Elizabeth Banks, and the rest of the cast have not yet confirmed to return to the sequel but a release date for the LEGO Movie 2 has been revealed on May 26, 2017.
With Warner Bros. revealing the two LEGO movie projects this year, the question remains, will there be crossover between these two movies? It could be yes, after all the LEGO Movie showed different themed LEGO toy-lines so it could be possible that Emmet and the gang will meet the fiery ninjas of Ninjago. The possibilities are limitless.
