Anderson Silva is primed for a comeback in mixed martial arts competition according to close friend and training partner Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante.
The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion is one of the most well-known figures in "The Spider's" training camp, along with fellow contenders Lyoto Machida and the Nogueira brothers.
But "Feijao" has been in Anderson Silva's corner since his early days of fighting, and has bore witness throughout "The Spider's" rehabilitation process of the broken leg he suffered in his rematch against Chris Weidman in December 2013.
This is what made "Feijao" optimistic about an Anderson Silva comeback, adding that his long-time friend is still one of the best fighters out there.
"He's doing well," Cavalcante said in an interview with FOX Sports. "I think for any high level athlete like Anderson to go through an injury like that it must affect your mind, but he's doing well and I think he's going to be back better."
At 40 years old, Anderson Silva is still eyeing for a comeback in the UFC in the early part of 2015, as confirmed by his manager Ed Soares. "The Spider" is currently on his sixth month of rehabilitation.
"He's definitely coming back," Soares said in an interview with The MMA Hour. "He's feeling good, he's training hard. Everything is good, man. Hopefully we'll see him back."
Anderson Silva was once regarded as the top pound-for-pound mixed martial arts fighter in the world. He has successfully defended his title for a record ten consecutive times, a feat yet to be beaten in UFC history.
He has faced the toughest fighters put in front of him, such as Rich Franklin, Vitor Belfort, and Chael Sonnen, before dropping the title to Chris Weidman.
And for "Feijao" it is "The Spider's" mindset in fighting that gave him a great deal of success.
"What's always made him a great fighter, I think, is his mindset," Cavalcante continued. "The way that he looks at fighting. That can't change."
