Queen Elizabeth II was the one who named one of the two new aircraft carriers of the United Kingdom Royal Navy. It was named Queen Elizabeth during a ceremony in Scotland.

These two new carriers are being built at the Rosyth dockyard located on the Firth of Forth. Once fully loaded, the carriers reach a total weight of 65,000 tons. They are now believed to be the largest vessels to ever enter into service with the Royal Navy. In fact, to date, the HMS Queen Elizabeth is believed to be the Royal Navy's largest war ship. It is part of the country's 6.2-billion pound shipbuilding program and has been labeled a "super carrier."

Queen Elizabeth II said during the ceremony, "It marks a new phase in our naval history. In sponsoring this new aircraft carrier, I believe the Queen Elizabeth will be a source of inspiration and pride for us all."

These carriers, including the Queen Elizabeth II's named Queen Elizabeth, can successfully embark up to 48 aircrafts of different kinds, from helicopters to F-35B Lightning II fighters.

Philip Hammond, UK Defense Secretary said in a statement, "HMS Queen Elizabeth is the largest ship that the Royal Navy has ever had, and is a true demonstration of the UK at its best, with over 10,000 people across the nation working together to deliver her. This occasion marks a major milestone in regenerating the UK's aircraft carrier capability, enhancing our ability to project power anywhere in the world."

The official launching of Queen Elizabeth II's HMS Queen Elizabeth has been scheduled later this year. Plus, it will only be launched when a fit-out has been completed. After the fit-out, the vessel will be commencing sea trials, which have already been planned on 2017. Plus, aircraft trials have also been scheduled for 2018 for testing out the flight of the nation's F-35Bs. The HMS Queen Elizabeth will soon be joined by the HMS Prince of Wales in 2020, as initially planned.
