While Apple is still busy preparing for the launch of its latest iPhone 6 this year, Samsung was also reported to be working on its first metal-bodied device. According to some reports, Samsung has trademarked the name "Galaxy Alpha" just last month, which means that this may be the official commercial name of the device once it makes its way out on the market.
If the reports are correct, then Galaxy Alpha is going to be the first of its kind of all of Samsung's creations, and is independent of the Galaxy S line. The smaller screen may be a transparent way for Samsung to contest against the new iPhone, which is rumored to be available in two sizes, 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch. That would make the Galaxy Note 4 the second hit in Samsung's one-two punch against Apple.
The Galaxy Alpha should feature a "premium metal" body with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display, and runs on an Exynos 5 Octa processor. The device believed to be just 6 millimeters thick that is supposed to be considerably thinner than the Galaxy S5 (8.1 millimeters) or the iPhone 5s (7.6 millimeters). Samsung still hasn't comment on the rumors. However, source claims that the company calls the Galaxy Alpha "card-phone" for its slim profile.
Actual specs on the Galaxy Alpha is yet to be released before it goes out on the market, which could be any time during August. What's more, previous rumors mentioned of Samsung putting a 5.25-inch display on their Galaxy F. If this is so, then this is also the first time that they will be having a smaller screen on its device. However, if Samsung's main focus here is to create something that has to compete with Apple's iPhone 6 before it's going to be released any time in September, it would make more sense to go for a smaller size.
