Samsung Chrome 2 Release Date: Microsoft announced at its Worldwide Partner Conference, it would compete with Chromebooks at the bottom of the PC market's totem pole. The Samsung Chromebook 2 was scheduled for release by the end of the June.

Currently, HP Stream laptop with a Windows 8 OS goes for just $200. This is a huge new low for Windows. The last time Windows sold at a similar price point was when Microsoft sold netbooks, at the bottom of the PC market.

Chromebooks from Samsung, and HP are eating up market share as consumers are settling for smaller PCs, with less efficiency and RAM. A switch to mobile devices could be another reason why PCs are being minimized to tablets and smartphones. Chromebooks are also making the PC very compact and lightweight and its eating up market share.

In the aftermath of the smartphone revolotuion, both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 have failed to succeed in the mobile device-chromebook foothold. So, Microsoft with a new man at the helm, Satya Nadella is re-strategizing its presence in the low end PC market. Pricing competitively with Chromebook is a sales strategy that could turn the tables.

Microsoft COO Kevin Turner discussed how Microsoft and its OEMs should compete at the Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) in Washington DC to regain market-share in the low end PC market. Turner also talked about Microsoft and its OEMs should deal with the threat of Google Chromebooks on the markets.

Turner said Windows is better than Chromebooks and went on to show inexpensive models from Toshiba and Acer. The HP Stream laptop will sell for $200 but the specs are said to be low. Meanwhile, the Acer Aspire ES1 is available at Amazon for $240. The aforementioned laptops will released at U.S. holiday sale .
