The mtvU Fandom Awards held last July 24was the first award show of MTV Network's college channel spinoff that honoured fanboys and fangirls. A report from ET Online says the mtvU Fandom Awards was held as part of the 2014 International Comic-Con in Petco Park, San Diego, with TV series "Veronica Mars" receiving top honors as Fandom Of The Year.

According to their website www.mtvu.com, mtvU is MTV's college channel that exclusively broadcasts to more than 750 college campuses to reach nearly 9 million U.S. college students.

It is said to be the largest, most comprehensive television network exclusive for college students. mtvU plays around school dining areas, fitness centers, student lounges and dorms, with music videos from emerging artists that can't be seen anywhere else. mtvU also showcases student life news, features, and initiatives.

The network's mtvU Fandom Awards was held for the first time this year, and gave the fans full control to call the shots. Aside from "Veronica Mars" winning the Fandom Of The Year Award, the ET Online report also listed the other winners, such as HBO's "Game Of Thrones" as OMG Moment Of The Year for the saga's Purple Wedding episode.

The Breakout Fandom Of The Year award went to "Hannibal", while the "Harry Potter" franchise received the Best Fandom Forever award.

The award for Fandom Feat Of The Year went to MTV's "Teen Wolf", as its fans raised funds to build a wolf sanctuary.

"The Fault In Our Stars" author John Green won the Visionary Award.

Former real life couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev won the Ship Of The Year Award for their romance in Vampire Diaries. Other nominees for the said award, which according to mtvU is meant to celebrate "the best unspoken (and sometimes scandalous!) relationships across the fandom universe," were Katniss and Peeta from "The Hunger Games," Dean and Castiel from "Supernatural," Stiles and Derek from "Teen Wolf," and Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in "Sherlock."

While the mtvU Fandom Awards was held as part of this year's Comic-Con, celebrities still showed off red carpet glam for the big night.

A feature from Hollywood Life noted A-listers like Natalie Dormer , Jenna Dewan-Tatum , and Chloe Grace Mortez as some of the best dressed celebrities during the mtvU Fandom Awards.
