"Late Late Show" replacement news broke the Internet yesterday, revealing that a celebrity from the U.K. will be the new face of CBS' late night slot. The said English celebrity is James Corden, who will be stepping in for Craig Ferguson after the latter hosted the 12:35AM talk show for close to ten years.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that CBS is eyeing the 35-year-old English actor-producer-TV personality as the "Late Late Show" replacement. However, the network has not yet released an official statement.
Early in his career, James Corden co-created the acclaimed British series "Gavin and Stacey". In 2012, he won a Tony Award for the comedic play "One Man, Two Guvnors".
The most current project of the rumoured "Late Late Show" replacement is Disney's big-screen musical "Into The Woods", where he stars as the Baker. James Corden was also recently seen in the movie "Begin Again", starring alongside Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley.
James Corden's other projects include "One Chance" and "Gulliver's Travels". The "Late Late Show" replacement also guest-starred on "Doctor Who".
A report from E!Online also recalls the career of current host Craig Ferguson, who announced that he was leaving "Late Late Show" in April 2014.
"I'll be stepping down at the end of this year in December," Craig Ferguson said. "Then I'll go and do something else, probably. I'm thinking carpentry, but I haven't made my mind up yet".
The TV host explained: "I don't know what I'm going to do yet but I feel doing this show for 10 years, that's enough...I have a good relationship with [CBS]."
Craig Ferguson even joked, "I'm still in business with [CBS] on other stuff, so please don't picket them or go up to CBS with flaming torches, unless you're angry at me, then, you know, get in line."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a possible factor that made CBS consider James Corden as "Late Late Show" replacement is his massive following in the U.K. and on social media, where he has 4.35 million Twitter followers.
The English personality's social media following could help CBS, who's heavy competitor NBC maintains a strong social media presence.
