Which Samsung smartphone is the better choice for consumers? We compare the Galaxy Ace against the Galaxy Ace Plus to see which device is worth the purchase.

In terms of design and display, both smartphones are using TFT screen which support the same resolution of 320x480pixels, but the size of the Samsung Galaxy Ace is higher at 3.5 inches, and the pixel density is 165ppi. The Ace Plus measures 3.65 inches and a pixel resolution of 158ppi.

The Galaxy Ace is shorter, narrower, thicker and lighter than its successor, measuring 112.4×59.9×11.5 mm and weighing 113 grams. The Galaxy Ace Plus measures114.5×62.5×11.2 mm and weighing 115 grams.

In addition, they have rectangular shapes and their bodies have round edges. On the front panel users notice the Options and Back capacitive buttons and the physical button in the centre, which functions only by pressing once on it.

For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Ace is powered by a 800 MHz ARM 11 processor, based on a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset, but it uses the same Adreno 200 GPU as the Galaxy Ace Plus. The difference is that the next generation uses a 1GHz Cortex-A5 processor, which teams up with a Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon chipset and the RAM capacity is at 278MB. The Galaxy Ace Plus had the RAM capacity doubled. The internal storage is at 158MB and the Ace Plus hosts 3GB of internal memory, but the good news is that both phones support microSD cardSLOTS for expansion up to 32GB.

Both smartphones come with Android v2.3 (Gingerbread), but only the Ace Plus is waiting for the.1 (Jelly Bean) update. The Ace has TouchWiz 3.0 and the Ace Plus comes with the next TouchWiz 4.0, whose interface suffered some changes, for the better.

For battery and camera specs, both smartphones have user-replaceable batteries of 1350mAh on the Galaxy Ace and 1300mAh on the Galaxy Ace Plus. The Ace Plus has a slightly weaker battery and we can’t understand Samsung’s decision to integrate a smaller battery on a phone with a faster processor. The Galaxy Ace can last for 6 hours and half in 3G, while the Ace Plus allows users to talk almost 1 hour more.

The two Samsung devices have identical cameras on their backs with the same features: autofocus, LED flash, geo tagging, face and smile detection, the maximum supported resolution is 2592 х 1944 pixels and the video recording capability is at 480p@30fps. Both lack a secondary camera and they can’t record in HD.

The camera unit is same on both the phones, a 5 Mega Pixel camera on the Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Ace Plus. Photos come out at a maximum resolution of 2592×1944 pixel, which was the same resolution of the Samsung Galaxy Ace as well.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace costs $116, while the Galaxy Ace Plus is worth $192.
