Sony Xperia P Vs HTC Sensation XE: Design, Display,Hardware, And Prices Showdown! Which Smartphone Is Worth The Purchase?

Which smartphone is worth the purchase? We compare the Sony Xperia P or the HTC Sensation XE to see which device is better.

In terms of design and display, both smartphones have displays supporting the same resolution of 540x960pixels, their sizes and pixel densities are different. The Sony Xperia P has a 4 inches LED-backlit LCD which is capable of rendering 275 ppi, while the HTC Sensation XE has a 4.3 inches S-LCD screen with 256ppi.

Sony developed Mobile BRAVIA Engine and a technology called WhiteMagic, which was used for the first time on the Xperia P to provide brightness with fewer back-lit, and this consumes the battery slower. Plus, the screen is made of a scratch-resistant glass. The HTC Sensation XL on the other hand, uses Corning Gorilla Glass for protection against scratches.

The Sony device measures 122×59.5×10.5 mm while it weighs 120 grams. The HTC Sensation XE is 31 grams heavier and measures 126.1×65.4×11.3 mm.

In addition, the Xperia P has a plastic rectangular body with sharp edges, a slightly curved rear panel and a transparent narrow strip below the screen. The HTC device is thick, with a three colors mixed together: matte black, red and glossy black.

For the hardware and OS, the HTC Sensation XE has a Scorpion CPU with two cores, clocked at 1.5GHz, based on a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset and uses an Adreno 220 GPU. The Sony Xperia P has a Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1GHz, with two cores as well, but it’s supported by a NovaThor U8500 chipset and uses a Mali-400 GPU.

The Xperia P has a bigger internal memory of 16GB, but it’s unexpandable, while the Sensation XE has only 4GB, but its capacity can be expanded up to 32GB. The Sony device has 1GB of RAM and runs initially on Android v2.3 (Gingerbread), but the good news is that the OS is upgradable to 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The HTC devicee has only 768MB of RAM and it comes loaded with Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), but it’s upgradable to a previous version, 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The Xperia P comes with Sony’s TimeScape UI, while HTC is using Sense UI, much friendlier and with a great gesture support, having some add-ons with user-intuitive gesture controls.

For the battery and camera specs, the Sony Xperia P's battery is non-removable and with a smaller capacity, 1305mAh, which should deliver about 5 hours of talktime on 3G and 6 hours on 2G. The HTC Sensation XE on the other hand, has a Li-Ion 1730mAh battery with which users can talk over 7 hours on 3G and 9 hours on 2G.

Both smartphones have rear cameras of 8MP and VGA front cameras. They share in common autofocus, geo tagging, image stabilization, face detection and they both record videos at 1080p@30fps. The Sony device in addition has 3D sweep panorama, while the HTC device has dual-LED flash.

Both smartphones can be purchased from amazon.com at at a price of $220 dollars for the Sony Xperia P and $215 or the HTC Sensation XE.
