SBS' new drama 'Fashion King' unfortunately didn't grab the audience as much as was expected. Even their A-list cast couldn't cover up the flat storyline.

The first episode of 'Fashion King,' aired on the 19th, followed the four main characters as they go through the fashion industry.

Ga Young (played by Shin Se Kyung) and Young Gyul (played by Yoo Ah In) are both in similar situations: both their parents have left the picture early on, leaving them to learn to take care of themselves. Young Gyul owns a clothing store in Dongdaemun Market and hires Ga Young as a seamstress.

On the other hand, Jung Jae Hyuk (played by Lee Jae Hoon) is the heir to the famous company Jay Fashion. After talking back to a famous designer, he gets a visit from an old classmate, Young Gyul, who wants to borrow money.

The cast's acting definitely meets expectations. However, the development of the storyline was too fast. As soon as Ga Young gets hired by Young Gyul, she immediately gets accepted to a fashion school in America and automatically takes a plane to New York. Young Gyul is forced to go work on a boat catching crabs because he owed money to loan sharks.

Mixed responses were given by viewers: "The story is going really fast," "From the start 'Fashion King' is no joke. Shin Se Kyung's in America," "Don't even feel sympathy for the characters and wasn't interesting enough," "Not very fresh and it's somewhat boorish...but it's something that we haven't seen in a long time! I'm going to trust the characters' potentials for now."
