Which smartphone is worth the purchase? We compare the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Samsung Galaxy S2 to see which is better.

For the design and display, the Nokia Lumia 800 has a glossy plastic on the back, a rectangular body with sharp edges and not so thin. The difference between the two, is that the Nokia smartphone features a curved AMOLED (Nokia ClearBlack) display, while the Samsung Galaxy S2 has a simple Super AMOLED Plus screen, but both smartphones are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass and the body of the Galaxy S2 is made of polycarbonate with a rugged surface.

The Nokia Lumia 800 has a 3.7 inches display and has resolution of 480x800pixels and 252ppi. It has these dimensions 116.5×61.2×12.1 mm and it weights 142 grams.

The Samsung Galaxy S2's WVGA display measures 4.3 inches and has the same resolution as its rival, but the pixel density is lower at 217ppi. Its dimensions are 125.3×66.1×8.5 mm and it weighs 116 grams.

For the hardware and OS, the Nokia Lumia 800 has a single core Scorpion processor clocked at 1.4GHz, based on a Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset, and uses an Adreno 205 GPU. The RAM capacity is 512MB and the internal memory is 16GB, but it doesn’t support expansion.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has a Cortex-A9 processor with two cores, clocked at 1.2GHz, it uses an Exynos 4210 chipset and a Mali-400 GPU, it has 1GB of RAM and it has two variants of internal storage: one that is 16GB and expandable up to 32GB and another one of 32GB.

The Nokia smartphone runs initially on Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS, which is upgradable to v7.8, while the Samsung device comes with a Android v2.3.4 (Gingerbread), but it allows users to upgrade it to v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and then to v4.1 (Jelly Bean). And has TouchWiz on top of it.

For the battery and camera specs, the Nokia Lumia 800 has a non removable battery, featuring a capacity of 1450 mAh, which allows a talktime on 2G up t 13 hours, or 9 hours and a half on 3G. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has a 1650 mAh battery which lasts over 18 hours when talking on 2G and 8 hours and 40 minutes on 3G.

Both smartphones are fitted with 8MP back cameras of 8MP, the Lumia 800 uses Zeiss Optics with autofocus, dual-LED and geo tagging, it records at 720p@30fps in HD, but it doesn’t have a secondary camera. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has more features than the Lumia 800, but it has LED flash, and fortunately, it provides a front camera of 2MP for video calls.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 costs $300 on amazon.com and the Nokia Lumia 800 cost $152.
