The latest "Iron Man 4" rumors all lead to Robert Downey Jr. giving up the armor. We all know that he was one of the main reasons why the three "Iron Man" movies were a success. He did an awesome job portraying the role of the billionaire playboy turned superhero named Tony Stark. In fact, he was named as Forbes' highest paid actor and what he earned mostly came from the third installment.
So what would it take for the 49-year old actor to do another "Iron Man" movie? We reported last time that he will only do a sequel if his good friend Mel Gibson will direct it, but he later on revealed that it was only a joke.
When Robert Downey Jr. made an appearance at the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actor revealed that there are negotiations for a fourth installment. However, the actor surprised many fans when he told David Letterman that there's no script for "Iron Man 4" and that he will be doing other stuff with Marvel.
His statement started out speculations that he may finally be passing the role to another actor, most probably someone younger. During an interview with The Telegraph, Robert Downey Jr. tried to steer away from the "Iron Man 4" rumors and talked about the future of superhero movies.
When asked if Marvel has plans for another "Iron Man" and if it is the end of the iron-clad superhero, he said: "Not that I'm aware of." Downey Jr. was also asked if he will only appear in "Avengers" movies. The screen heartthrob said, "Avengers was another opportunity, but they're not talking about Iron Man 4. I was kind of bombed out to tell the truth, but maybe they've got bigger fish to fry and I trust their overall vision. The funny thing about these genre movies is you'd think they were national secrets."
The publication asked Robert Downey Jr. if he gets a bit jealous when another superhero movie like Spider-Man or Batman comes out. He said, "Honestly, the whole thing is just showing the beginning signs of fraying around the edges. It's a little bit old. Last summer there were five or seven different ones out. I feel that they are critiqued by a different metric to any other movie."
He further on explained, "It's like a bunch of really good dancers and you're looking for the one who keeps changing her leg warmers. They make a lot of money." Maybe he's getting tired of doing superhero movies. Robert Downey Jr. revealed, "I want to make a movie that's commercial and the studio will not lose money, but I want to do something that feels like a departure."
Do you think the "Iron Man 4" rumors are true? Who do you think will take over Robert Downey Jr.'s role as Tony Stark?
