With only days away until the Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes rematch, the challenger has opted to engage in a war of words with another would-be opponent, Conor McGregor on national television. Meanwhile, the champion has refused to talk about "The Notorious" until after the fight.
The Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes rematch is scheduled for the coming weekend, October 25th as UFC 179's main event bout in the champion's home country of Brazil. While the champion and challenger prepare themselves for war, another top contender is seemingly entering the 145-pound title picture.
Ireland's newest mixed martial arts sensation "The Notorious" Conor McGregor has been the talk of the town in the fight world today. His brash demeanor and dapper image has earned him an instant chunk of followers, both fans and critics.
His eloquence in talking trash and breaking through his opponents psychologically has been a staple occurrence to see whenever McGregor steps into the limelight. After his UFC 178 a month ago, the 26-year old fighter opted to go after both combatants during his press conferences.
"He's 5'6", 65-inch reach," McGregor said of Mendes. "I have an eight-inch reach advantage on him. I will tower over him. So I'd maul Chad."
"And Jose, I feel like he's in that pattern of deterioration," the Irishman said about Aldo, in turn. "So again, another easy win."
McGregor's statements were not warmly accepted by "Money", who opted to trade words with "The Notorious" on British television's BT Sports during its segment, "Beyond The Octagon."
"Conor's a big talker," Mendes said. "Conor brought so much attention to this division, so much attention to the UFC, recently. He talked his way all the way up to the top."
"When I look at Conor, I see dollar signs on my bank account," he continued. I match-up horrible for this guy."
McGregor snidely replied by issuing a challenge to "Money."
"Don't worry, I will take that belt from Jose, and I will come back haunting for your little midget head," McGregor said regarding the Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes rematch.
Meanwhile, the champion refused to partake in the trash-talking fiasco.
"He's a sh*t," Aldo said in the most recent episode of UFC Embedded. "I'll only talk about him after my fight."
