Georges St-Pierre's next fight may have another possible opponent, as top contender Matt Brown reveals his intentions to face "GSP." "The Immortal" also believes that he is the perfect person to face the former long-time welterweight champion once he does decide to make an Octagon return.
News about Georges St-Pierre's next fight has been circulating around as of late. In the past weeks, the fighter's trainer Firas Zahabi had been issuing statements regarding the former champ's return.
"My personal opinion is he still has plenty of competitive juice in him," Zahabi said in a previous interview with ESPN. "I don't think he'll be anywhere near fight shape until he's late-34 -- mid-34. I think he's got a few fights in him but I don't want to speak for the guy. He might retire and no one could blame him."
Two weeks ago, news about supposed negotiations about Georges St-Pierre's next fight also surfaced, after "GSP" and UFC executives Dana White and Lorenzo Fertita flew out to the fighter's hometown in Montreal, Canada, for a lunch meeting.
But as it turned out, it was merely a catch-up session, as Dana White revealed.
"We love the food in Montreal so we figured we would fly there for some lunch. The weird part was GSP was there too! Crazy! Was good to c him ;-)," White simply told The Province.
This past week, however, a top welterweight contender presented himself to be the opponent for Georges St-Pierre's next fight. Matt "The Immortal" Brown revealed that he was always interested in facing the former champion, and believes he will make for a perfect match-up.
"I think I am in the right position for it," Brown said in a report by Bloody Elbow. "I'm not the champion, he's not going to come back and get the championship fight right off the bat. I'm in the right position."
"I can look at it objectively on paper and see that he would be the favorite," he added. "I would hope that it would be a five rounder. I would love to do it. I've always wanted to fight Georges."
