Which tablet device is the better purchase? We compare the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and the iPad 5 to see which is better.
In terms of design and display, the Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 has a WQXGA Super Clear LCD display measuring 10.1 inches and supports a resolution of 2560x1600pixels with a pixel density of 299ppi. The iPad 5 with Retina display supports a lower resolution of 2048x1536pixels and 264ppi.
The Samsung Note 10.1 comes with a soft cloth and a metal bezel, and it's more practical than its predecessor. Its dimensions are 243.1×171.4×7.9 mm, and it weighs 535 grams on the 3G version, 540grams on the the Wifi version or 547grams on the LTE version. Also, the tablet features a Home, Back and Menu button on the bezel.
Apple's iPad 5 on the other hand, looks a lot like the iPad Mini and it's very pretty at the first view. It measures 240×169.5×7.5 mm and it's a lot lighter than the Samsung tablet, weighing 469 grams.

For the hardware and specs, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has two variants of processors for the 3G/Wi-Fi or the 4G LTE models. The 3G/Wi-Fi models are powered by a Quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 CPU, while the other variant has a Quad-core 1.9GHz Cortex-A15& quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, and both of the models come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and 3GB of RAM.
Meanwhile, Apple's iPad 5 is equipped with a Apple A7 chip, and it's 31faster than the A6. Its processor is dual-core 1.3GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based) and the tablet hosts a 1GB of RAM DDR3.
For battery usage and camera specs, both tablets have non-removable batteries, but with different capacities: the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1's battery is Li-Po with 8220mAh, which last up to 10hours (multimedia). The same battery life has iPad 5's Li-Po 8,820mAh battery.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has a 8MP primary camera (3264x2448pixels, autofocus, LED flash) and for video calls, users can use the 1.2MP front camera. The Ipad 5 has a primary camera of 5MP (2592×1944 pixels, autofocus) and the secondary camera is also 1.2MP.
In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 features the popular S Pen stylus, which was improved and reduced in size, and it can be stored horizontally. One of the coolest apps on the new tablet is "Samsung Content Gifts" and includes Samsung's Autodesk Sketchbook, a better version of Twitter and some content from The New York Times.
The iPad 5 was rumored to come with a fingerprint scanner, but the fans were disappointed when their dream was ruined, so they'll have to settle with the iPhone 5S's fingerprint scanner.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition 32GB variant costs around $600, while Apple's iPad 5 32GB variant is around $540 on amazon.com.
