Tito Ortiz's next fight has gotten more controversial as "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" had recently admitted that he planted a spy in opponent Stephan Bonnar's camp. The former UFC light heavyweight champion has also taken the upcoming fight to a more personal level.
Tito Ortiz's next fight against UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar is slated to take place this Saturday as Bellator 131's headline bout. Prior to the scheduled match-up, both men have already been trading barbs, and almost broke out in a brawl during one of the pre-fight promotional efforts in early-September.
In another interview prior to Tito Ortiz's next fight, "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" claimed that he conned Bonnar into fighting him in another promotion outside the UFC. Both fighters have been out of the company for years already.
In an interview with MMA Weekly, Ortiz explained how he tricked Bonnar into fighting him, as well as planting a spy into the latter's training camp.
"I wanted to fight in Bellator, so I signed with Bellator and I thought in my mind, 'How can I get Bonnar to Bellator to finally shut him up and smash him after the things he said?'" Ortiz explained.
"And sneakily on my side, I got (fighter manager) Dave Thomas to sign him," he continued. "Dave Thomas signed him and we had to think of something to make him believe that Dave Thomas doesn't like me, that Paul Herrera didn't like me. Paul Herrera was going to coach him. And Stephan Bonnar bit the line, hook and sinker. He thought in his own mind that all of his guys were against me and I fooled him."
Ortiz claims that he does not regret his actions, and that he has made things personal between him and Bonnar.
"I don't like this guy. He's been talking about my family. He's been talking about my fans," said Ortiz. "And for him to talk about them the way he has, I had to come up for a way to get him back and this is the way to do it, and on Nov. 15 I'll shove my elbow through his face and it's going to be exciting."
