At least three more movies are lined up after "The Fast and the Furious 7" release date, according to reports.
"The Fast and the Furious 7" release date won't be due until summer 2015, but Universal Pictures considers the series good enough for at least three more movies.
The seventh installment to the Fast and the Furious franchise is an achievement in itself, with the previous movie a big hit in theatres. Paul Walker's death jeopardized the future of the franchise, but Universal Studios is confident there's more to the series after part 7.
Chairman Donna Langley hinted of the extended run for the series:
"We think there's at least three more. Paul [Walker] is, and always will be, an integral part of the story. But there are many other great characters, and it's also an opportunity to introduce new characters. I think it's still a growing franchise. We'll see what happens with Furious 7, obviously, but our box office has grown over the past three or four films and internationally, in particular. So we think that there's more to mine there. But we're of course very mindful about fatigue." (thehollywoodreporter.com)
There are also reports some of "The Fast and the Furious 7" cast getting spinoff movies of their own after the series has spent its run; executives at Universal plan to use the finale as springboard for multiple projects.
Around the time part 6 was being produced, there were reports that "Tokyo Drift" star Lucas Black was confirmed for two more FF movies, which confirms fans have at least part 8 to look forward to.
Paul Walker remained a presence in part 7 with CGI and stunt doubles (with his brothers standing in for him) as substitutes. New additions to the ensemble, notably Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham, breathe new life into the franchise.
Producers admit "The Fast and the Furious 7" release date (April 3, 2015) will determine the course of the next installments, though, especially if the turnout hints fatigue for the franchise has kicked in (screenrant.com).
