Universal monster movie remakes are set to make a comeback to the big screen. For sure, the monsters would take center stage. However, word about their not being scary is spreading across the worldwide net.
Screen Rant reported that the renowned studio has recently released a shared universe that would bring the iconic monsters for their Universal monster movie remakes. The latter would be in the likes of Count Dracula and the mummy. They started with "Dracula Untold." The film stars Luke Evans, and it was released last October.
Accordingly, even if some known horror elements would be used in the said films, they would not be categorized as horror flicks. They would be categorized as action-adventure films. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed this news straight from the studio's chairman Donna Langley. She said:
"We have to mine our resources. We don't have any capes [in our film library]. But what we do have is an incredible legacy and history with the monster characters. We've tried over the years to make monster movies - unsuccessfully, actually. So, we took a good, hard look at it, and we settled upon an idea, which is to take it out of the horror genre, put it more in the action-adventure genre and make it present day, bringing these incredibly rich and complex characters into present day and reimagine them and reintroduce them to a contemporary audience."
iO9 further supported this news of the upcoming creation of the Universal monster movie remakes universe. They said that the studio has recently taken in several writers to comprise their writing team for the planned reboots.
Also, they noted that Universal's making their universe is following in the footsteps of Marvel films. The pattern involves focusing the limelight on each character via an individual film. This is then categorized as one of the films in the universe, which readies the audience for an eventual collaborative movie comprising all the characters.
