"The Lego Movie Batman" spin off is a go; turns out directors Lord and Miller will commandeer a sequel of sorts to "The Lego Movie" after all.

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller won't be directing the official sequel to last year's "The Lego Movie," but they're getting their hands dirty in "The Lego Movie Batman" spin-off.

Empire Online interviews the duo on plans for a standalone Lego Batman movie, and also future projects, including possibilities for "23 Jump Street," and the long-delayed "Ghostbusters 3."

Miller comments plans for a standalone film for Lego Batman will keep the spirit of the moody Batman in "The Lego Movie," with the numerous adaptation of the film, TV, and graphic novel Batman considered.

"Rest assured that every era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged. There have been so many interpretations of Batman and there is so much to play with there. There are 40 versions of his origin story alone."

Miller and Lord also take a potshot at Marvel Studios' marketing strategy, adopting it through the Lego Ninjago and Lego Batman standalone films.

"The thing is about these movies is that each of them have their own tone and their own voice. We're doing this Ninjago one with Charlie Bean, we're working on the Batman one, and each one of them feels like its own movie, but obviously they all exist in the universe that the Lego movie existed in, and so finding that balance has been part of the trick."

It's like we started with The Avengers and now we're going to spin off and explore the different worlds, then come back."

A Lego "23 Jump Street" is also being considered, although Miller wonders "who knows if it'll all come together or how."

Lord and Miller confirms the long-drawn issues surrounding "Ghostbusters 3" are keeping production at bay; it's likely they won't be involved in the movie, but are expectant of the turnout.

"We had very, very loose discussions because we do a lot of work with Sony, and we're friends of the court there, and they talked to a lot of people about that. Ultimately Paul Feig came up with the idea that broke it open, which we certainly didn't have! But I think that's going to be a great movie, and we're really excited as fans of the franchise that it's starting up again."

"Ninjago" and "The Lego Movie 2" launches October 14, 2016 and 2018, respectively. "The Lego Movie Batman" release date is slated February 10, 2017.
