Nokia N1's full specification sets it up against the iPad Mini 3 and Nexus 9.
A rundown of the Nokia N1 full specification shows it is ready to move on from the company's fallout with Microsoft. The latter recently dropped the Nokia brand in its mobile (Nexus) releases, now installed with Windows Phone OS by default.
The unveiling of the Nokia N1 today came as a surprise, especially when the announcement involved a new OS for the tablet. Installed with Android Lollipop, the new device is expected to compete with the iPad Mini 3 and Nexus 9 when it launches next year.
The Nokia N1's price is reasonable, considering its specs. $249 is cheap, but only if it holds come international release. Initial pricing excludes taxes and subsidies, though, and will likely increase upon launch. The Nokia N1 release date is slated for February 19, 2015 in China.
The device will run with a stock version of Android Lollipop (64-bit), but will have several features to compensate. The Nokia Z launcher adapts to user preferences, remembering frequently used apps and suggests these by default.
The tablet features a 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor, powered by a 2GB RAM, 32GB included storage, but without microSD support.
A notable first in Nokia N1's full specification is its type-C USB port, making it one of the new devices to support the new USB standard. In design and in specs, the tablet is comparable to a lighter (318 grames), thinner (6.9 mm) iPad Mini.
"Nokia's N1 has the same 7.9-inch screen size and even the same 2048 x 1536 resolution. Nokia has even opted for a single piece of anodized aluminum design. The resemblances don't stop there, though.
The only things missing here to complete the iPad mini look are a home button, chamfered edges, and an Apple logo. There's even 'Natural Aluminum' and 'Lava Grey' color schemes, and a cover that looks suspiciously similar to Apple's Smart Case (theverge.com).
It sports a decent 8MP camera (front) and 5MP (rear); the Nokia N1's price should determine how it'll fare on the market, with Apple's iPad Mini 3 currently pegged at $399. The unveiling of a new Nokia tablet should make things interesting in upcoming iPad Black Friday deals (theinquirer.net).
