Is possible to have text messaging turn into a public platform? Viber is aiming to create new public chats. The new feature permits users to "listen in" or read chata between celebrities and interviewers. The first round includes singer songwriter Pixie Lott and DJ Paul Van Dyk.
Talmon Marco, Viber's CEO explains Public Chats let the users fly on the wall experience as they watch other people they want to have a conversation with. This is another form of texting in a podcast or a live stream or live blogging interview.
According to Marco, the concept is to develop participation on the platform, he says he believes Public Chats will urge more users to Viber, but agrees that it is an untried format. Marco also says, "We all take from each other," when asked about that other messaging platforms like WeChat, Line and WhatsApp might steal the idea. Well, he is not bothered about it.
Viber, the Israel-based company, which Japanese company Rakuten purchased for $900 million in January, is one of the world's largest messaging platforms. A less or free add service, Viber has taken its first phase to profits with text based and emoticon stickers. Talking about online messaging, there's always a disconnection between messaging platforms like WhatsApp and social media sites like Twitter.
It's an idea that is clearly confusing users over Viber, to the level where its developing something else like Public Chats to its system. Public Chats are conversations between celebs, that the platform users can witness, in the similar manner they could watch celebrities post on Twitter. The company hired celebrities like erm Copa90, Tyler Oakley and Perez Hilton to do the kickstart of the new feature. Although, there is now way to have a sneak peak on this kickstart since this is only offered as a "fly-on-the-wall experience."
