Killer Instinct Xbox One Season 2 introduces a new character on Monday.

Killer Instinct Xbox One Season 2 is updated with a new playable character on Monday. Players who own Season 2 Ultra Edition will receive Kan-Ra, a Babylonian sorcerer doomed to a living rot after his failed attempt at assassination to the king, two thousand years ago.

Kan Ra is a projectile character, with ranged and air-based attacks. Combo Breaker purchasers will get the update almost a week Ultra Edition purchasers, on November 30.

Two characters from the first installments, TJ Combo and Maya, are already playable. Kan Ra is just one of many characters to be introduced per month until Spring of 2015: Riptor is up to launch next.

Developer Iron Galaxy admits its strategy of releasing content on a staggered basis is uncommon, especially in the fighting game genre. Killer Instinct is a decades-old title with a long hiatus, but it has a solid fan base.

"The monthly content model is massively different to the way that most fighting games (and really most console games) are built. And yes, as some of you have suggested, those of you who have bought into S2 already are in many ways 'beta testing' the game as it gets more and more content and features over the course of the season." Starting January, Iron Galaxy will also release info and previews on Killer Instinct Xbox One Season 2 characters before they're officially launched to the consoles.

"We're going to try some things a bit differently with how we talk about upcoming characters, fuelled directly by your feedback here on the forums. Expect each character's name, concept art, story, and gameplay preview streams to appear before their launch, not right around it. We may show a character in stream before the trailer launches, even."

Plans for an Xbox 360 port of Killer Instinct were confirmed but scrapped, as creative director Adam Isgreen says the project was deemed infeasible (eurogamer.net).
