Finally, Wonder Woman found a director. Based on the report of the Hollywood Reporter, television director Michelle MacLaren has agreed to develop and direct the said movie, it stars Gal Gadot, due for release in 2017 in the title role. Before this, Batman v. Superman director Zack Snyder has been asked to produce the superhero film. The decision makes MacLaren the first female director to helm a tentpole superhero film in recent years, and only the second overall.
She was a very strong choice to be the director for Wonder Woman because of her award winning shows. Maclaren will the first woman director to do a project in DC's upcoming film. Lexi Alexander directed Punisher WarZone in 2008. MacLaren created the small screen projects like The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. She is in talks with DC a few weeks ago, first linked in Wonder Woman in the latter part of October, but it is reported that they first met with DC way back in August.
The Hollywood Reporter said, "MacLaren will work with the project's writers, which remain unnamed at this stage, to lasso together a script for the project, which would star Gal Gadot. Gadot will make her debut as the heroine in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
The producers will be Deborah Snyder, Charles Roven and Zack Snyder. The said film has been in development, on and off, for almost two decades. Joss Whedon was the last director, but left project in 2007. The studio did not talk with two other women directors, Leslu Linka Glatter, a co-executive producer and director on Homeland and Jennifer Kent, of the well-regarded women-centric horror movie, The Babadook., was also on the list.
