Lucasfilm dropped the teaser trailer for the new Star Wars film on Friday, The Force Awakens. The release date is more than 365 days away, the fans excitement is palpable. JJ Abrams is the director, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will be reprising their roles as Luke Shywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia.

1976

The very first trailer released for the franchise, from the man who created American Graffiti, the story of a universe, a boy and a girl. The first Star Wars came to cinemas a year before its release date, the trailer ensured a spectacle light years ahead its time.

1979

The Empire Strikes Back teaser trailer showed concept art by Ralph McQuarrie instead action filled scenes. The incorporated paintings into the trailer involve Darth Vader on a Star Destroyer, Luke on a tauntaun, and his final duel with Darth Vader.

1982

The blue light saber that Luke Skywalker is using is the ultimate change in this trailer. In the film, it's green. In the teaser, the shot of Obi Wan Kenobi was from editors that put in ghostly spirit with halo effect.

1998

The 1999 trailer of The Phantom Menace prepared the fans to the next trilogy, giving an explanation of the start of the original trilogy. Samuel L Jackson is the best element of the film.

2001

The Attack of the Clones has the strangest teaser trailers ever; the preview has only Darth Vader's breathing and a short sound effect of the lightsaber with a mish-mash of Star Wars world visions.

2004

Fans were hoping to get a glimpse of Luke as Mark Hamill's appearance in the Force Awakens. The Revenge of the Sith Trailer shows him as a baby.

2014

The teaser of The Force Awakens is out on Friday. One of the changes is a different light saber and a black Storm Trooper.
