Psy's "Gangnam Style" breaks YouTube record, going well beyond the two billion views mark.
The streaming media site is upgrading its system after it announced Psy's "Gangnam Style" breaks YouTube record, with around 2.15 billion views for the music video and counting.
There's no doubt Psy's horse-galloping dance moves has become global sensation. Since its 2012 release, "Gangnam Style" raked in so many views it YouTube was forced to upgrade its counter. A spokesperson for the video streaming site posted on the company's Google+ page:
"We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. 'Gangnam Style' has been viewed so many times we had to upgrade to a 64-bit integer (9,223,372,036,854,775,808)!

The "math magic" refers to the site's "broken" view counter: hover the mouse pointer over it and the counter goes crazy. Psy can claim to have singlehandedly broken the Internet, something Kim Kardashian only intended to do (huffingtonpost.com).
The 36-year old rapper, singer, and producer currently has over 7.5 million YouTube subscribers to his channel, with over 4 billion visits since 2010.
This is hardly the first time Psy's "Gangnam Style" breaks YouTube record; it reached its first billion views in December 21, 2012, a mere five months after the video made its rounds on the Internet.
YouTube Trends Manager Kevin Allocca confessed it wasn't considered normal for a video to peak like that. "We're seeing the scale of these things increase over time, but I don't know that it can go much bigger than this ... [it's] a very special thing and it's very difficult to create or recreate.
The conditions were just right, and the combination of the novelty and catchiness of the song, the rapid sharing factor and the intense connection people all around the world had with the video helping to create the perfect storm." (mtv.com)
