This week comes with new Android Lollipop features to spruce up that Android phone you just scored last Black Friday.
Android Lollipop's features are contenders to the new iOS 8, and its Material Design is sweet as candy, with colorful and seamless interface. In case you've yet to shift to the new Android Lollipop OS, here are a few neat features you'd miss out on if you don't.
The first thing noticeable after installing Lollipop is the new interface. Needless to say, Android's Material Design bumps up the UI of Android devices. It'll especially complement new Android Lollipop apps you'll install.
The new OS also improves function in the design, with notifications displayed directly on the Lock Screen, optimizing battery life. This feature may be customized so the Lock Screen doesn't display sensitive notifications; there's also a disable option at "Settings > Sound & Notification".
One of the more notable Android Lollipop features is the Battery Saver. Third-party apps promised optimized battery life, but this feature is integrated with the Lollipop by default; switching to Battery Saver Mode is also simple enough, go to Settings > Battery > Menu, and enable the feature. The new OS promises to extend battery life by 90 minutes, give or take.
Android prioritizes your privacy preferences in the new OS, as you can disable all of your device's notifications; you can also customize Priority Mode so it only sends out your approved notifications.
In case you're willing to let friends and family borrow your device, the Guest Mode allows access to other users without compromising personal data. Similar to PC Operating Systems, you can create multiple user accounts with different configurations and permissions; Guest Mode for temporary users.
Android devices can also be child-proof and child-friendly: if you want to keep new Android Lollipop apps accessible to your kids, these may be pinned to the Home Screen at the Settings Menu; users don't have to log in as Guests for a brief game of Flappy Bird.
