Kim Soo Hyun has decided not to appear in the upcoming drama "Dr. Frankenstein." He was considering the role of a genius doctor with multiple personalities, but has decided to wait on his drama comeback.
His last role was playing the alien Do Min Joon in the highly successful "You Who Came From The Stars." That series ended in February.
The actor was offered the role in "Dr. Frankenstein" early in October and eventually declined it about a month later. However, his agency, KeyEast, did not make an official announcement regarding the rumor until Dec. 5.
Part of the reason the actor has not yet decided on his small screen comeback project is the overwhelming number of offers he currently receives. After appearing in the alien-human romance, he received a steady stream of offers in Korea and China.
"We′re looking for the best project," said the Key East representative. "We′re looking for a project that fits perfectly in character, story and even timing."
Kim Soo Hyun was not only successful in his last drama, but the drama before that "The Moon Embracing The Sun" was also a hit, generating ratings of 42.2 percent. Kim Soo Hyun won awards for his performance as the king in that drama. Finding a drama to follow these two successful dramas may not be easy. But given his past record, fans may be confident he will devote his full attention to the decision.
"Since the previous project had such good results, it can be a challenge picking the next one," said the Key East representative. "But Kim Soo Hyun really wants to find a suitable project. And he really loves acting. He's very careful about choosing his projects and it's just taking a little longer."
KeyEast says they are in the process of making a decision. The agency promises that Kim Soo Hyun will appear in a new project next year and that it will reveal a new side to him.
Between now and then, Kim Soo Hyun will travel throughout Asia for fan meetings, while taking part in fashion shoots and other promotion events.
If you miss seeing Kim Soo Hyun on the screen, you can always check out his pervious works. He's great as a country bumpkin who can sing in "Dream High." He's also fun to watch as a North Korean spy in the film "Secretly, Greatly." And he plays a small but winning role with his "You Who Came From The Stars' co-star Jun Ji Hyun in the heist film "The Thieves."
The role in "Dr. Frankenstein" is up for grabs.
