The Street Fighter V announcement trailer takes a different tack, appealing to the heart of the gaming community.
The new Street Fighter V announcement trailer is quite unexpected of Capcom, known for teasing and releasing titles with a bang. Previous installments in the Street Fighter franchise were introduced with much fanfare, in trailers which teased players on new ways of beating opponents.
Street Fighter V for the PS4 and PC is as far as the game gets in the platforms; Xbox One is out of the running. Insiders speculate this exclusivity is the reason for the rather tamed announcement trailer. Check it out below:
It's also a sign the franchise is maturing with the audience, and although the game is still tied to its grassroots of hardcore fans, there's no doubting Capcom is also reaching out to new crowds, especially those not into the fighting game scene.
Stream commentator David Graham comments on the tone of the new trailer, confirming the game has evolved from a brawler to a game in a league of its own.
"I love also that the trailer makes a strong connection between trying to get good at other activities and games, as if to say that they know fighting games can be the same way. I hope that this signifies another switch in mindset toward emphasizing getting more players more interested in the competitive side." (venturebeat.com)
Street Fighter V may not be the spectator sport of the gaming world, especially compared to the success of League of Legends and StarCraft, but Capcom is engaging the community with sponsored tournaments and tie-ups with Twitch.
"Our intended audience is people who already have some interest in fighting games but might not know everything about Ultra Street Fighter IV or these particular players. Even James (Chen, Graham's commentating partner) and I didn't know a lot about some of the players before this!"
The Street Fighter V release date is still pending announcement.
