A "Hateful Eight" cast member confirms the Quentin Tarantino film has started filming in Colorado.
Previous news of the "Hateful Eight" script being leaked somewhat preempted the filming of Tarantino's newest project, which kicked off production, according to lead star Samuel Jackson.
Jackson has become a staple in Quentin Tarantino's films, with early and notable roles in Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown. Jackson hinted of the movie's filming in a tweet, with an abrupt caption "and it begins!"
The photo was taken at the 900-acre Schmid Ranch in Telluride, Colorado, where the movie is intended to be filmed in its entirety. This is the first time a movie is shot exclusively in the state, ever since John Wayne's "True Grit" in the 1960's.
The "Hateful Eight" cast involves an impressive line-up, with actors new and familiar to Tarantino projects: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, and Channing Tatum.
The movie is character-driven and will be dialogue-heavy, with the events happening six to eight years following the end of the American Civil War. The plot is a bit claustrophobic in the Western sense, with eight travelers stranded by a blizzard in a mountainside watering hole, "Minnie's Haberdashery."
"Hateful Eight" is a murder mystery of sorts, and "not everyone makes it out alive in the end." Tarantino gets his inspiration more from TV Westerns like "Bonanza," instead of the classics of cinema.
"Twice per season, those shows would have an episode where a bunch of outlaws would take the lead characters hostage... I don't like that storyline in a modern context, but I love it in a Western, where you would pass halfway through the show to find out if they were good or bad guys, and they all had a past that was revealed." The "Hateful Eight" cast ensemble comes out in theatres on 2015.
