News of the "Beetlejuice 2" cast heats up, with Winona Ryder reported to reprise her role.
It turns out the "Beetlejuice 2" cast will be a reunion of sorts for Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, and now Winona Ryder, recently confirmed for a comeback. Tim Burton has already confirmed the sequel is in the works, but is pacing development.
Keaton said in a February interview that he's in to reprise the role if Tim Burton was, and in October it was confirmed a script is in the works. When MTV News asked if Burton will direct part 2, his answer was a short but affirmative "Oh yeah."
When asked if Winona Ryder would make a comeback, Burton also made sure there's no room for misinterpretation in the answer.
"Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah."
The director said a recent collaboration with Ryder in a The Killers music video sealed the deal for her comeback in the "Beetlejuice 2" cast.
"I worked with [Ryder], I hadn't seen her in awhile... and she was so great. I was so happy to see her. So those kinds of elements mean something to me. Michael, and her... and that character, I just miss it, there's some freedom about that character that I love."
There's no replacing Michael Keaton in the titular role, but development is somewhat stalled as acclaim for the actor's performance in "Birdman" peaks.
"Let's put it this way, there is only one Beetlejuice for sure. And [the script] is pretty good. And I haven't really yet spoken to [Michael Keaton] because he is out on his awards campaign so you can't get to him now."
Keaton is expected to be swamped with offers after "Birdman," with the "Beetlejuice" sequel on the shortlist. The "Beetlejuice 2" release date is yet to be announced, but fans of the original are assured part 2 is coming (cinemablend.com).
