The Huawei Honor 6 Plus's dual-camera setup steps up the challenge against the iPhone 6 Plus.
Huawei Honor 6 Plus's dual-camera setup does novel tricks other smartphones can't, and its 5.5-inch display is a diret challenge to Apple and its iPhone 6 Plus.
The Honor 6 Plus is released just a month after its smaller incarnation, but it has something novel to offer besides the upgrade in display size. The Honor 6 Plus comes with three eight-megapixel cameras that function more than the standard point-and-shoot digicams.
An initial Honor 6 Plus review comes straight of the unveil, at Beijing's 798 Arts District; the dual-camera setup is an improvement on the HTC One M8, launched earlier this year. Both allow users to adjust focus after photos are taken, but the Huawei Honor 6 Plus has plenty more features installed by comparison.
A Kirin 925 octa-core processor is split into two groups of ARM Cortex-A7 and Cortex-A15 processors, the latter bearing the brunt of the work and the latter reserved as power-saving backup. The 401 pixel-per-inch count is the same as the iPhone 6 Plus, with full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.
Storage and RAM specs are staple, at 3GB RAM, 3GB onboard storage, and 3,600mAh power source. The good stuff is in the dual-cameras, though.
There's a slight disappointment with the absence of an optical zoom, but refocused images look organic compared to app simulations. The device comes packed with 1.98-micrometer pixel size, enhancing the detail of the dual 8MP rear cameras.
An 8MP front-facing camera is also installed for good measure. Action shots are possible with a 0.1-second focus feature.
At the unveil, the Huawei Honor 6 Plus is installed with Android KitKat 4.4, not the Lollipop 5.0; Huawei's own user interface is set by default. China's bid against Apple is evident with the Huawei Honor 6 Plus vs iPhone 6 Plus comparisons, and the neat camera feature makes the Chinese smartphone more than an iPhone 6 knockoff (cnet.com).
