Plenty of updates over the week, before the yet-to-be announced Final Fantasy XV release date. The newest trailer gives a glimpse of local flavor in gameplay, and combat dynamics were also revealed; turns out MP won't be spent on magic casts anymore.
Square Enix teased plenty of details on its upcoming RPG, though the Final Fantasy XV release date is yet to be confirmed. The demo for the game will launch with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD next year, though. One of the differences between Final Fantasy XV and previous installments like Final Fantasy VIII is in the combat system.
Final Fantasy XV retains the core dynamic of other installments, as an action RPG with a roughly turn-based combat. There's stark contrast in the dynamic, especially in how MP is used: MP won't be the currency for magic casts, but will instead be used for special attacks, like evasions.
Summon spells are also exclusive to the character Noctis, unlike previous games where almost everyone has one or two summons to unleash. Game director Hajime Tabata said "The summon creatures in Final Fantasy XV are the embodiment of the planet's power, and can only be summoned by Noctis." (kotaku.com)
Square has yet to verify how magic factors into combat.
Characters wield at least two weapons during combat; a main weapon and a sidearm of sorts. Players can switch between weapons in-combat, enabling combo variations.
Dualshockers also reported on the panel reveal at the recent Comic Fiesta in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, led by Producer Shinji Hashimoto and Lead Designer Wan Hazmer.
"Malaysian tradition plays an important role in the town of Lestallum, which is the one shown in the Jump Fiesta trailer. The suburban look is similar to Kuala Lumpur.
Some artwork of the city of Lestallum and its NPCs was showcased (including a hotel room where Noctis can stay), alongside footage of some of the actions NPCs can perform there (Update: you can find the video here). They can prepare Malaysian food, an element inspired by Hazmer, who is Malaysian himself.
The Malaysian food in the game is teh tarik, satay and roti canai.
NPCs in the city will be unique.
Ignis is the one doing the cooking at the campsite, and will prepare meals depending on the ingredients given to him.
Day/night cycle is set at 60 minutes in real time. 40 Minutes day, 15 minutes night.
Titan cannot be summoned, but summons will be available in the Episode Duscae demo.
The game will include: day/night cycle, a "unique weapon system" and summon system. Weapons will provide different move sets.
If you don't camp, you cannot level up.
Is Stella Nox Fleuret still in Final Fantasy XV? 'No Comment.' (Hazmer laughed while responding this question)"
Stay posted for update on the Final Fantasy XV release date, with Type-0 HD up for launch in 2015.
