"Insurgent" star Ansel Elgort addresses rumors he's gay in tweets, confirming he "likes girls a lot." The actor broke up with longtime girlfriend Violetta Komyshan in August, a bare two months after their first public appearance together in June.
Ansel Elgort on Twitter clarifies rumors he's gay, in a couple of tweets. The actor confessed he's into a nerdy hobby "girls love" in a December GQ interview, which supposedly started the rumors on his sexual preference.
Elgort said in the tweets, "Just in case it isn't clear... I like girls. A lot," and also asserted "Also let me say if I was gay I wouldn't hide it. Being gay or straight isn't bad or good it just IS. U are who you are. Be true to yourself." (usmagazine.com)
The GQ interview which sparked the rumor was out of context, though. "Insurgent" Ansel Elgort's nerdy hobby is in fact common in fan boys; the actor collects small figurines, specifically die cast replicas of elements in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice."
It turns out Elgort loves to recreate fantasy worlds in miniature, with replicas of trees and weaponry to boot.
"There was always this stigma, like, 'Oh, girls will be turned off by that kind of thing.' But it's totally the opposite. Girls love it when you have some weird nerdy thing in your room. It makes you look less threatening, even though I'm, like, very threatening. I'm the most threatening guy ever."
"Insurgent" Ansel Elgort joins the Factionless in the sequel, and confirms he's also keen to doing things his own way, especially now he's officially made it big, with "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Divergent" to his credit.
"What's interesting to me is the fact that creatively I can do anything now and people will pay attention, and if I suck, hopefully they will stop paying attention very quickly, but if I'm good, then I have my foot in the door, and people have paid attention, and I did a good job, and people are like, 'Oh, wow!' That's sweet!"
