Is The ‘Ant Man’ Movie Plot Drastically Different With Lead Actor Paul Rudd Co-Writing? Comedian Teams Up With ‘Anchorman’ Director Adam McKay; Expectations For A Comedy Dispelled By Trailer

The "Ant Man" movie plot could've been very different if Edgar Wright remained to direct. Its lead actor Paul Rudd also co-wrote the script for the film, which would turn out to be a good sophomore outing if impression for the trailer holds for the rest of the movie.

Edgar Wright's creative differences with Marvel may have sealed the fate for the "Ant Man" movie plot. The director was involved in the project as early as 2006, when he commented about his vision for the film. The earliest hint the movie was in progress was the unveil of test footage at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con, with Kevin Feige.

The director's involvement in the development of the Ant Man property was extensive, and his exit was received as quite a shock by the community. An official statement confirmed the fallout seven months ago:

"Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly."

Fast forward to today: Paul Rudd gets writing credits for the movie along with Wright's replacement Adam McKay. Rudd said he almost instinctively pitched into the project as co-writer with McKay's involvement, which gave the project fresh ideas and expanded elements.

Rudd is better known for his comedic roles on films, and with "Anchorman" director McKay on board, initial expectation was the revamped "Ant Man" movie plot would lean on the humorous side. The trailer proved otherwise promising.

"It's a little strange writing something that's really, truly out of my comfort zone," Rudd said. "I wouldn't know how to begin to write [something like this], but sometimes you just hit the ground running, I guess. Thankfully Adam was there." (ew.com)

With a full trailer released, "Ant Man" is out on theaters this July 17.
