The "Suicide Squad" movie just lost Tom Hardy in the role of Rick Flag; it turns out Hardy is too busy he had to step out of the project. He was among the actors confirmed for lead parts in the film adaptation of DC's unlikely band anti-heroes.
Most of the Suicide Squad members already have actors filling in; it's a notable ensemble which involves Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
It turns out Hardy stepped out because of his hectic schedule. The actor is in the middle of filming Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu's "The Revenant," which co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and production will take longer than estimated. Hardy's commitments will overlap and won't be available when the Suicide Squad movie shoots, in time for its 2016 release date.
Hardy is also expected to juggle another commitment with the Suicide Squad filming, with a worldwide promotional tour for George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road." (cinemablend.com)
Tom Hardy leaving the "Suicide Squad" movie was a disappointment, especially with the actor's skills considered. Hardy took on notable roles in the past, as an MMA fighter, also as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises," which received mixed reviews.
The plot for the DC adaptation is still unclear, though it will follow through on the comic, which involves an assembled team of villains commissioned to do black operations in exchange for pardoned sentences. It's rumored Jessie Eisenberg and Viola Davis will join the Suicide Squad members as well, as Lex Luthor and Amanda Waller.
Screenrant pegs Jake Gyllenhaal as worthwhile replacement to Hardy, given his notable performance in "Nightcrawler." He was almost a replacement for Tobey Maguire in "Spider-Man 2," and joining the Suicide Squad movie reunites him with director David Ayer.
Producers have yet to announce a replacement for Hardy in the "Suicide Squad" movie before its August 5, 2016 release date.
