Suge Knight was reportedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that ended with the death of former rap record label owner Terry Carter, according to CNN.
The former rap mogul reportedly pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to murder charges in the hit-and-run incident before complaining about chest pains in court and being taken to the hospital.
Mark Blankenship, president of Everlert Entertainment who has business dealings with Knight, reportedly told reporters that he believed Knight was under strain because he hasn’t had access to his medicine.
“Imagine yourself being picked up unexpectedly into jail cell and not having the right medicine. I know they’ve been seeking to get him medicine. He has special medicines he needs. It’s a medical condition,” explained Blankenship.
Knight reportedly faces life in prison if convicted in the hit-and-run in Compton last week. He is reportedly accused of running over two men and killing one of them following an argument.
The confrontation reportedly began about 3pm on Thursday when Knight and the victims began arguing on the set of “Straight Outta Compton,” according to the LA Times.
“It looks like an intentional act,” stated Sgt. Richard Biddle of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who is investing the case.
He added, “There’s a whole bunch of people we still need to interview, but no one is coming forward to cooperate.”
Knight’s attorney, James E. Blatt, reportedly told The Times that Suge Knight was trying to get away from his attackers after being assaulted, and accidentally ran the two men over.
“We feel strongly Mr. Knight did not do anything wrong in this matter. He was attacked by a number of individuals; that has already been corroborated by certain witnesses. He left the scene because he was in fear for his safety and life,” explained Blatt.
Blatt reportedly described Carter as a good friend of Knight.
According to the Carter family, that wasn’t the case.
“They say that Suge and their father are not close friends,” Biddle stated.
