Maxxandra Ford of Tampa, Florida gave birth to a 14 pound and one ounce baby boy on January 29, giving birth to one of the largest ever born in the state’s history, according to the NY Daily News.
Ford’s newborn son, Avery Denton, had an interesting pregnancy as she didn’t even know that she was expecting until about 35 weeks into her pregnancy and had reportedly assumed she should be having twins.
“She knew she gained a lot of weight and thought she might be having twins because she was a twin,” explained St. Joseph’s Hospital’s spokeswoman Nancy Gay.

Ford reportedly initially just thought she was gaining weight last fall for other reasons, but after going to a doctor in her third trimester, she learned that she would be a mother, according to WFLA.
“When I felt his head come out, I knew he was bigger than 10 pounds,” Ford told WFTS-TV, according to ABC News.
The average birth weight for babies born in the U.S. is reportedly 7 pounds, 7.5 ounces, according to Dr. Vincent Ianelli, a pediatrics expert. Little Avery goes in the High Birth Weight category as he was born over 8 pounds and 8 ounces.
Although Avery is quite big, he’s still reportedly a bit smaller than the largest baby ever born, according to Guiness World Records. Ann Bates of Canada reportedly gave birth to a newborn who weighed in at 23 pounds and 12 ounces.
