Oculus VR CEO Palmer Luckey expects the Oculus Rift consumer version release date to be sometime in Winter 2015.
Gamenguide has reported that Palmer Luckey revealed that the expected Oculus Rift consumer version release date is on Winter 2015.
"Speaking to The Telegraph, as reported by VR Focus, Lucky estimated a winter 2015 launch for the first consumer version of the VR headset" as was noted on the report.
Meanwhile, the report also speculates that the Oculus Rift consumer version would be better than the current prototype of the Oculus Rift called "Crescent Bay".
"The current prototype of the product, Crescent Bay, may still be improved upon further before release, possibly even upgraded to a new model. The current OLED display is said to be better than the second development kit's 1080p screen, and Crescent Bay also features integrated audio and full 360 degree positional tracking" as was noted on the report.
Their speculation echoes the sentiments made by Palmer Luckey about the specs of the consumer grade version of the Oculus Rift compared to the Crescent Bay prototype.
"Co-founder Palmer Luckey also stated that the consumer system's resolution would get a 'significant increase' over the DK2's 1080p display, with a refresh rate that will hit 90Hz or higher" as was quoted by Tech Radar.
While Oculus hasn't confirmed the price of the Oculus Rift consumer version, Palmer Luckey and Nate Micthell state that the VR headset could be priced around the $200 to $400 range.
"Company co-founders Palmer Luckey and Nate Micthell stated they want to keep the hardware in the $200-$400 range; something similar to the prices of current development kit models. The DK2 model, specifically, sells for $350" as quoted by Game Rant.
