January is gone before we even knew it and now February has come. Doesn’t feel like yesterday when were just celebrating new years? Time sure flies by, but in this k-dramaland, a new month equals a new drama.
February has a great line up so far, and I, being the huge drama fan that I am, can not wait to see what is in store for us.
There are four dramas that will premiere on February:
- IRIS 2
- That Winter, The Wind Blows
- Incarnation of Money
- Advertisement Genius Lee Tae Baek
So let's start with “IRIS 2,” which is starring Jang Hyuk and Lee Dae Hae as our main couple. These two have acted as a couple in “Chuno” and “The Robbers” before and I am so excited to see what kind of romance they will bring, since in Chuno they didn’t give me enough romance, because to me the main couple was Lee Da Hae and Oh Ji Ho.
Besides Jang Hyuk and Lee Da Hae, we have Lee Bum Soo, Yoon Doojoon, Lee Joon, Oh Yun Soo, and Im Soo Hyang, as supporting roles. I am expecting a lot from all of them, since we have seen them all in other dramas and they did good. I am pretty sure they won't disappoint. I am specially looking forward to see Doojoon and Lee Joon and having seen them act before, I know I'm in for a treat. I love handsome boys acting as bad boys. Don't you?
So what will “IRIS 2” be about since Kim Hyun Joon (Lee Byung Hun) died on us in the last second of the last episode leaving us dumbfounded, mad, and maybe even disappointed? Well the drama will obviously still be about the National Security Service (NSS) going against IRIS. This time Jung Yoo Gun (Jang Hyuk), will also have the same fate Lee Byung Hun once had, and he will be involved in a mission that will turn his live around. We will also finally know who is Mr. Black since in IRIS they kind of forgot -sarcasm- to let us know who was this mysterious person.
In my opinion, “IRIS 2” have nothing to envy from any Hollywood movie. From the teasers and the budget they used -a whooping $10 million dollars- it is noticeable that we will be at the edge of our seats every week. And honestly that is what we love. For some reason I am expecting some Mission Impossible kind of action, and if we do have it, then let IRIS 2 become the best K-drama in existence.
Besides, the over-the-top action scenes, cool plot, bad-ass characters, the one thing I really wanted “IRIS 2” to have from the original was Baek Ji Young and her amazing voice that is so perfect for any drama. I really enjoyed “IRIS” original soundtrack. “Don't Forget” and “Hallelujah” (sang by BIGBANG) were so good. I still listen to them. However it was recently announced that ballad duo Davichi will be in charge of the theme song. Don't get me wrong, I love Davichi, but I would have prefer Baek Ji Young. I mean I don’t think BIGBANG will participate again.
Don't forget that the drama will air on February 13, 2013 on KBS.
Let's say you are not the type that likes action dramas that much, you rather prefer a heart-warming, life-changing type of romance, well then you are in luck, because “That Winter, The Wind Blows,” might give you just that.
The drama is starring Jo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo as Oh Soo and Oh Young. Oh Soo is a gambler and con artist who had no motivation to live. His life becomes meaningless after his first love dies. He then will try to take advantage of blind Oh Young. Oh Young's live have not been easy either. She becomes blind and her father dies making her the sole heiress of a big company. They don’t believe in love, but -oh surprise- they will fall in love and find the meaning of their lives again.
I love this kind of stories. I am a sucker for super cheesy romance that makes your heart race just by the main characters looking at each other. I can't wait to see their chemistry and their intense romance. I mean, nobody does romance like South Korea does right? Give me romance please!
I am so happy to see Jo In Sung act in his first drama in 8 years -gasp- where has he been this whole time? His role in the 2008 movie “A Frozen Flower,” is so amazing that I am so excited to see him in a drama, since I haven’t watch any of his drama. As for Song Hye Kyo, this will be her comeback after 5 years since she did “Worlds Within.”
We will be able to have more eye candy with flower boy Kim Beom, who will come back to our small screens after he played the guardian angel in “Padam Padam” back in early 2012 (Want to see an inspirational story and you love Jung Woo Sung? I suggest you watch “Padam Padam” now). He will be Oh Soo's best friend and “partner in crime.” Our dose of cheerfulness will be provided by Moon Hee Sun (A Pink's Jung Eun Ji). She is Oh Soo's first love's sister. I hope I’ll love her as much as I did in “Reply 1997.”
This powerful love story will start its run on February 13th, at 9:55 PM (KST) on SBS.
Yeah, that means that “IRIS 2” and “That Winter, The Wind Blows” will fight for the ratings. Add funny rom-com “Level 7 Civil Servant” in that mix and we will have the year's first real fight. I feel bad for Koreans viewers who have to decide which drama to choose. Who do you think will be the winner? I Think will be “IRIS 2.”
Now that “Cheongdamdong Alice” is over. Kang Ji Hwan and Hwang Jung Eum will take over the screen on the weekends with “Incarnation of Money.” This drama is about corruption, greed, revenge, betrayal and love. This drama actually started last weekend (Feb, 2nd) and I personally enjoyed the first two episodes.
The drama introduces this extremely rich old man, that is a douche to his wife, and everybody. Who is actually cheating on her with this much younger actress in her face. Obviously this actress in not interested in this old sick man, but his money. She and this man that the old man raised, are having an affair behind the old man's back, but he discovers them. He then plans a party to kill the actress and his -almost- son. However the one who ends up dying is the old man. This old man have a really young son Lee Kang Suk (played by child actor Park Ji Bin) who is around 15 years old.
Lee Kang Suk is super smart and he figures this whole deal by himself and he knows that the actress killed his father. The thing is, his mom is convicted of murdering his father. So he has no one to turn to. His father's will is altered and his whole fortune goes to the actress. So this kid is left with absolutely nothing. He then discovers that that actress was associated with the man he thinks of as an older brother. So this guy knows that the kid knows and tries to kill him, but the kid is hit by a car while escaping and actually escapes from being murdered.
Very Complicated huh? Which makes it (for me at least) more interesting and fun. I specially love child actor Park Ji Bin's acting. He has grown so much since I last saw him in Boys Over Flowers, as Geum Jan Di's little brother. He is giving an amazing performance.
All in all, this drama will have Hwang Jung Eum playing the role of a plus size woman who has a lot of confidence and will be the CEO of a bank. She was so cool in “Full House 2,” despite that horrible ahjumma hair and ugly fashion. As for Kang Ji Hwan, this will be his comeback after he did “Lie To Me,” with lovely Yoon Eun Hye. I am curious to see if they will make a good couple. They do look good in the posters.
Incarnation of Money airs every Saturday and Sunday on SBS at 9:50 PM (KST).
And last but not least, we have “Advertisement Genius Lee Tae Baek.” this drama also already aired this past Monday (Feb, 4th) on KBS. The drama is replacing “School 2013” but sadly wasn’t able to maintain the spot “School 2013” had and only recorded 4.4% of ratings.
This drama revolves around the world of Advertisement. Main leads of the drama are Jin Goo as Lee Tae Baek, Park Ha Sun as Baek Ji Yoon, Jo Hyun Jae as Addie Kang, Han Chae Young as Go Ah Ri. These four will work in Ad company Geumsam.
Lee Tae Baek is a talented man, but due to his poor resume, he always has a hard time being hired in companies. Baek Ji Yoon is a copy writer intern in Geumsam who is really hard working. These two will be our main couple.
I would say this is the weak drama of the Monday-Tuesday line up. “The Horse Leader” has been steadily in the first place, while “Yawang” is has a well deserved second place.
To be honest, the advertisement world does not really interest me, and the only reason I would watch the drama will be for Jo Hyun Jae. He was so good in “49 Days,” and this will be his comeback, after being discharged from the military.
I think it will be difficult for “Advertisement Genius Lee Tae Baek,” to surpass “The Horse Leader” that has gotten so much love and ratings of over 20%.
You can watch “Advertisement Genius Lee Tae Baek,” every Monday and Tuesday at 9:55 PM (KST) on KBS.
February sounds very promising. Your plate will be full with excitement, romance, action, laughter, tears, and probably frustration. I am sure you will have blast for the next two months with all of these dramas that have already premiered and the ones that will next week.
I will see you next month, and have fun!
