Android 5.0 Lollipop Update

Ace handset manufacturer Micromax announced that it will be rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Micromax Unite 2, one of its most successful smartphone models.

On Thursday, April 2, the Indian smartphone maker announced that it will soon be releasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop 5.0 update for the Unite 2 smartphone in the country.

According to NDTVGadgets, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Micromax Unite 2 will begin rolling out over-the-air (OTA) from Tuesday, April 7. Micromax confirmed that new buyers of the Unite 2 after April 7 will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop preloaded on their handsets.

When connected to the Internet, users will reportedly get a notification on their handsets from where they can directly upgrade to the latest OS. Alternatively, users can check for the upgrade manually via the following path:

Settings > About phone > Software update.

In a press statement, Micromax claimed that it has been selling three Unite 2 units per minute, making it one of the top five best selling mobile phones in the Indian mobile handset market. Although the company has not shared an official update change-log at this point, users can reportedly expect to see the typical Lollipop changes, such as UI improvements, enhanced notifications, better performance, improved battery-life and a lot more.

Launched with the objective of eliminating the language barrier in the region, Unite 2 will be the first phone powered to support 21 languages. In spite of its recent launch, the massive sale figures clearly indicate the need for such technology among the population. After all, such devices reportedly give the public the freedom to communicate through their phones without struggling to figure out a foreign language, IBNLive noted.

The Micromax Unite 2 boasts a 4.7-inch Bright Graph IPS display, an 800x480 resolution, and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor unified by 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 32GB via a microSD card. The smartphone features a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.

The camera offers numerous features, such as a beauty mode, panorama and live photo. The Unite 2 comes with a 2000 mAh battery and supports Bluetooth v4.0 and WiFi, as far as connectivity is concerned.

Unite 2 has sold over 1.5 million units since its launch last year. It is priced at Rs. 6,299 (approx. $102).
